Care information

- Only use fuel with the same or a higher octane rating than the data you received from us.

- After every software performance upgrade, we recommend adjusting the oil change cycle from 2 years/30,000 kilometres to 1 year/15,000 kilometres as well as changing to a high-quality engine oil such as Motul 300V Power 5W40.

- Availability of a software has to be checked live. We need to connect our computer to your ECU in order to check if an ECU/TCU upgrade is available or not.

- We advise against equipping engines with a mileage of over 100,000 kilometres with a new software (Stage1, Stage3, etc). We are not liable for any damage to the engine, transmission (incl. clutch and flywheel) and electronics if you still want a performance upgrade.

Description

Power Setup.
The transmission is primarily responsible for transferring the torque from the engine and limits it to stock levels. The APR engineers address this by recalibrating the software.

Fine-tuning
The DSG used in the new EVO models such as the Volkswagen Golf R (VIII), GTI (VIII), Audi 8V S3, Cupra Leon (KN), or the Skoda Octavia RS (NX) is simply astonishing. It shifts incredibly fast, is extremely powerful, and does not require any hardware changes to handle more torque.

Torque thresholds and clutch pressure are increased to prevent clutch slippage, while at the same time allowing more torque to be processed. For example, with the Golf R (VIII), we were able to achieve a torque increase from the stock 420 Newton meters to 530 Newton meters. Without the DSG software, the limit is 480 Nm. These and many other changes make the APR DSG software a crucial component for performance-enhanced vehicles. Our DSG software has been tested in the exhaust lab alongside the APR engine software and is included in the performance enhancement certification.

Software Information

More Power and Torque
From the factory, the Transmission Control Unit (TCU) limits the Engine Control Unit (ECU) in terms of torque and power to the predetermined stock values, which is not beneficial for us as tuners and for the APR engine software. This restriction significantly impacts the upgrade. APR increases these limits and implements other crucial modifications to ensure that the transmission can withstand the increased power. The TCU upgrade transforms the vehicle, delivering noticeably more driving pleasure—almost like tuning the car all over again!

Maximum Torque Capacity of the Transmission, Clutch Pressure, and Safety
APR has recalibrated the software limits to allow the transmission to handle higher torque. At the same time, the clutch pressure has been increased to completely prevent clutch slippage, even with increased power and torque. This function is dynamic, meaning that as the transmission takes on torque, the pressure is gradually increased to avoid overloading the system and preventing harsh gear shifts. Additionally, the system is recalibrated to account for physical limits. Excessive pressure, for example, can damage seals, and excessive current can harm the electrical system. APR doesn’t simply disable the limits and push the pressure to the maximum—instead, they have created a finely tuned balance between safety and performance.

Optimized Shift Points at Full Throttle
The factory-set shift points under full load are designed to work well with stock performance. APR's DSG software is perfectly tailored to match the characteristics of their engine software, ensuring maximum acceleration while maintaining a wear-free condition.

Optimized Launch Control
The factory launch control is heavily restricted, leading to a rather hesitant start as the transmission and engine work to keep torque in check. This is in contrast to older DSG transmissions and is not an ideal solution, even in a tuned state. The result: slow 0-100 km/h or 60-foot times. APR has completely recalibrated the system to enable a fast and smooth launch while ensuring that the clutch fully engages and prevents clutch slip at the start.

Optimized Shift Times
The shift times have been refined to deliver the fastest possible gear changes that the transmission technically allows. Additionally, artificial delays between the shift request—i.e., pressing the shift paddle—and the actual execution of the gear change have been minimized to ensure a more direct and responsive shifting experience.
