Care information

In principle, ignition coils have a long service life and do not need to be replaced after a certain mileage. This does not always mean that the cylinders concerned will actually fail; there may initially be sporadic misfires. If the high voltage generated by the ignition coils is reduced, misfiring initially only occurs in certain load ranges of the engine - namely when the combustion pressure in the respective cylinder becomes too high. A conventional four-cylinder engine usually has two ignition coils, which are either designed as dual ignition coils or ensure fuel ignition in all combustion chambers via an ignition distributor. If one of these coils is defective, two cylinders are usually also affected by slight misfiring. The following symptoms are typical:

- Rough engine running, jerking
- Increased fuel consumption
- Loss of power
- Engine control lamp lights up, possibly also sporadically

If these symptoms occur, there may be a defect in the ignition coil.
